About the artist.

Marta Tumińska is a Polish self-taught visual artist currently living and working in the Netherlands. Her journey into art began in 2019, during the global pandemic. As the world came to a standstill, she turned inward, confronting emotions that had long remained unprocessed. What started as a personal exploration soon evolved into a deep and ongoing artistic practice  one rooted in introspection, emotional intensity, and a fascination with the darker side of human experience.

Her work is often described as surreal, macabre, and psychologically charged. Drawing inspiration from themes of death, transformation, strangeness, and emotional dissonance, Tumińska creates pieces that are at once haunting and deeply intimate. Her imagery often blurs the boundaries between reality and dream, beauty and discomfort, life and decay.

She primarily works with charcoal and graphite, mediums that allow her to evoke strong contrasts and raw textures. However, her creative expression is not confined to a single form. She also explores acrylic painting and various experimental formats  including wearable art, such as hand-painted clothing  constantly pushing the limits of traditional media to find new ways of communicating what words cannot express.

Tumińska’s art is a response to societal norms and expectations, offering a space where vulnerability, shadow, and personal symbolism are not only allowed but essential. She views art as both a mirror and a channel  a mirror reflecting her internal world, and a channel connecting with others who resonate with emotional complexity and the beauty found in the unusual.

Her work invites viewers to confront discomfort, question normality, and find meaning in the unspoken and the unseen. It is not meant to soothe, but to awaken to make you feel something deeply, even if that feeling is hard to name.
